About ABPM

The American Board of Preventive Medicine grants and issues certificates of special knowledge in Preventive Medicine and in one of three specialty or one of four subspecialty areas, to qualified physicians who are licensed to practice medicine. The ABPM is a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties.

MOC Exam Eligibility

The MOC examination is open to diplomates who are in the final three years of their certification cycle and diplomates with lifetime certification who choose to participate in the MOC process.

Upcoming MOC Exam Dates and Locations

All specialty and subspecialty MOC exams are administered on each date.

You do NOT need to register for any of the concurrent society events in order to register or sit for the examination. The ABPM does not conduct any courses nor are we able to provide any information regarding the concurrent events; if you are interested in attending these events, please contact the associated society directly.

MOC Registration

  1. Login into your record using your last name and password (or SSN) on the left hand side of this page.
  2. Click on the "Register for MOC Exam" button; follow the prompts.

Note: If you have not yet registered for the MOC process, you must register before you can apply to take the MOC Examination.

About the MOC Examination

  • In-person, pencil-and-paper
  • 200 multiple-choice questions
  • Two hours to complete the exam
  • Exam content includes ONLY your specialty or subspecialty. There is no core portion.
  • MOC exams follow the same content outline as the initial certification exam (without the core portion).
  • The ABPM is unable to provide practice tests, sample questions or recommendations regarding review courses.
